If Today You Hear His Voice...

Reflections on the readings for the Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time (January 28, 2018): DT 18:15-20; PS 95:1-2, 6-7,
7-9; 1 COR 7:32-35; MK 1:21-28

MISSIO offers “Mission In Scripture” to nurture a missionary heart, providing reflections on the missionary themes in the readings of Sundays, Feast Days and Holy Days.

The reading this Sunday asks us to be prepared to listen to God’s message and do what He asks us, not only at times when it is easy, but especially when it is a challenge. At certain times in life we face decisions that mean turning from evil and choosing the way of our Lord – the way of goodness and love. We might think that some situations demand too much of us and we seek an easier way, but that is exactly when we most need to trust in God. “Come, let us sing joyfully to the Lord; let us acclaim the rock of our salvation. Let us come into His presence with thanksgiving; let us joyfully sing psalms to Him.… Oh, that today you would hear His voice: ‘Harden not your hearts’” (Psalm 95:1-2, 7-8).

Today let us take some time to contemplate what Christ is asking of us right now. We have to be ready to say “Yes” to our loving Savior every day.

Suggested missionary action:  We can ask Jesus to help us open our hearts to Him more and more each day. We can also resolve to recommit ourselves to revealing His generous love to those around us.
